Sydney Sweeney’s jeans commercial that seemingly nods to eugenics with a play on the words “genes” and “jeans” has at least one fan: Donald Trump, who’s eagerly boosting her after learning she’s a registered Republican.
“Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there. It’s for American Eagle, and the jeans are ‘flying of the shelves,’” the 79-year-old wrote on social media Monday, initially misspelling “off,” then reposting a corrected version.
Trump then trashed Jaguar and Bud Light, two brands he deemed “WOKE,” before setting his sights on Taylor Swift, who endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election and has been the target of Trump’s anger in the past.
“Or just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift. Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can’t stand her (HATE!). She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT,” Trump wrote.
“The tide has seriously turned — Being WOKE is for losers, being Republican is what you want to be. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
Swift was indeed booed by Philadelphia Eagles fans at the 2025 Super Bowl, but not necessarily for reasons related to Trump. Swift’s boyfriend, Travis Kelce, plays for the Kansas City Chiefs, who lost to Philadelphia.
Shares of American Eagle surged more than 15% after Trump’s post, though the shares overall this year are down more than 27%, in part thanks to Trump’s volatile handling of the economy.
