The latest film adaptation of a Colleen Hoover bestseller centers on family secrets and teenage love stories. Regretting You stars Allison Williams, Dave Franco, McKenna Grace, and Mason Thames.
The trailer begins by showcasing the tight-knit family at the center of the story. Sisters Morgan (Williams) and Jenny (Willa Fitzgerald) both married their high school sweethearts. As Morgan’s teenage daughter Clara (Grace) is falling in love for the first time with Miller (Thames), the duo must face tragedy and uncover new betrayals after Morgan’s husband (Scott Eastwood) dies in a car accident with her sister Jenny. Franco plays Jenny’s now-widowed husband, who is helping his sister-in-law pick up the pieces while raising his young baby.

Josh Boone (The Fault in Our Stars) directed the feature, and the screenplay was written by Susan McMartin (After). This is the second book by Hoover to be adapted into a feature film, following last summer’s It Ends With Us. Though the film’s release was shrouded in drama and later legal disputes between lead actress Blake Lively and director Justin Baldoni, it made $350 million at the box office and became one of the year’s biggest movies. The next adaptation will be Verity, starring Anne Hathaway, Dakota Johnson, and Josh Hartnett.
Both Williams and Franco have starred in summer horror films. Williams led the sequel M3GAN 2.0, while Franco stars alongside his wife Alison Brie in Together. Franco will soon star in Now You See Me: Now You Don’t. Meanwhile, Grace is slated to star in Scream 7, out next year.
Regretting You will hit theaters on October 24th.
