'Outlander' Spinoff Has Fans Buzzing Over First Reviews – Here's What the Critics Are Saying originally appeared on Parade.
The average viewer still has a few days to go until the official release of Outlander: Blood of My Blood.
But if early reviews for the show are any indication, fans' patience will be well rewarded by the upcoming prequel series.
As with the original Starz series and its preceding novels by Diana Gabaldon, Outlander: Blood of My Blood features two overlapping stories spanning literal centuries of history.
In particular, the series will focus on the parents of Jamie Fraser (Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy) in 18th century Scotland, all the while the parents of Claire Beauchamp (Hermione Corfield and Jeremy Irvine) meet for the first time in World War One-era England.
As fans count down the days to Outlander: Blood of My Blood's release on August 8, many critics have since come out with their own exciting takes on the series.
"Prequels and sequels rarely stand up to the original work. Yet, Outlander: Blood of My Blood is a rare gem, glittering brightly on its own," deemed Variety's Aramide Tinubu. "Perfectly cast and well-acted, while honoring the source material, the show retains all the beautiful components that make Outlander so beloved, yet stands singularly on its own."
"Blood Of My Blood is a towering romance that wastes no time proving it has impressive command over its two-is-better-than-one setup," wrote The AV Club's Hunter Ingram. "Even as the preamble to a story on its way out, the series confidently debuts as a moving and frankly hot addition to an already deeply felt universe of storytelling."
With a premiere date of August 8, Outlander: Blood of My Blood's first season is likely to air until October of this year.
Earlier this summer, Starz made the momentous decision to green-light a second season before the show even aired, further illustrating the network's belief in the Outlander spinoff's potential popularity among mainstream viewers.
