Jelly Roll, Morgan Wallen lead Nashville country stars nominated for 2025 VMAs

A dozen favorites join Jelly Roll, Morgan Wallen among Nashville-favored country stars nominated for honors at September 7's Video Music Awards.

Nominations for the 2025 Video Music Awards have been released, and fan voting has opened.

The event will air on September 7 at 8 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. PT on CBS, MTV and streaming on Paramount+.

Fan voting is now open for 19 categories by visiting vote.mtv.com through Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. ET, except Best New Artist, which remains active into the show.

Like the last few CMT Music Awards presentations, Jelly Roll's four VMA nominations show him still surging to the forefront of country's pop cultural crossover moment.

The Grammy-nominated singer-songwriter's duet with Eminem for "Somebody Save Me" is nominated for the Best Hip-Hop and Video for Good awards. As well, his MGK collaboration "Lonely Road" is up for Best Alternative honors, while his "Beautifully Broken" album hit "Liar" is nominated in the VMAs' new Best Country category.

How did Nashville artists fare in 2025 VMA nominations?

The nominees in the new VMA category honoring country music's best include the following:

Luke Combs, Dasha, Ella Langley, Post Malone, Shaboozey, Blake Shelton and Bailey Zimmerman round out Nashville's country-centric nominees.

Dasha and Shaboozey are nominated for MTV Push Performance of the Year, Combs and Zimmerman's "Backup Plan" and Malone and Shelton's "Pour Me A Drink" are up for Best Collaboration. As well, Langley is nominated for Best New Artist.

Also of note, Morgan Wallen earned three nominations for Artist of the Year, Best Country video for "Smile" and Best Album for Billboard chart-topper "I’m The Problem."

Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars and Kendrick Lamar have 33 nominations between them to lead the field. Other noteworthy multi-nominated performers include Rosé and Sabrina Carpenter (8 each), Ariana Grande and The Weeknd (7 each), Billie Eilish (6), Charli xcx (5), Bad Bunny, Doechii, Ed Sheeran, Jelly Roll, Miley Cyrus and Tate McRae (4 each).

The continuing race for most-ever "VMA wins between Beyoncé and Taylor Swift continues, as both were nominated for Artist of the Year alongside Bad Bunny, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, Morgan Wallen and The Weeknd.

To date, each of the performers has won 30 Video Music Awards.
