Crowded House have announced seven new dates on their upcoming Australian tour, which the Melbourne-born band are describing as “pop-up shows”. Rather than the big open-air mini-festivals they are doing as part of their regional run, these shows – mostly taking place in capital cities – will take place in more intimate theatres and convention centres. The band’s complete updated tour itinerary, as well as pre-sale and ticketing information for these new shows, can be found below.

“We are very excited about playing in some of our favorite theatres,” said the band’s frontman and co-founder Neil Finn. “[The shows will take place] in two halves to allow some musical adventures to take place. [There will be] a wide selection of songs and styles from across our history, and also a glimpse forward to our best days ahead.” These shows will rank among the smallest the band have performed in Australia since reuniting back in 2007, with the majority of their reunion runs taking place at major music festivals, open-air events and at indoor arenas.

The newly-announced shows follow on from the band’s headlining slot at the final-not-final Bluesfest back in April, as well as their own headlining tour from last December in support of that year’s Gravity Stairs album. Their regional tour dates will feature support from Angus & Julia Stone, as well as Hunters & Collectors frontman (and Crowded House bassist Nick’s brother) Mark Seymour alongside Vika & Linda in a collaborative set combining their catalogues. The Waifs will open the tour, and The Church are also set to join the tour for the majority of its run, save for the date in Mannum, South Australia; there, the band will be replaced on the bill by The Cruel Sea.

The band found themselves in the news again last weekend when three of their songs were voted into triple j‘s Hottest 100 Of Australian Songs. ‘Weather With You’ came in at number 69, while ‘Better Be Home Soon’ ranked at number 38 and ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’ ascended into the top 10 at number five. They were one of several bands to have three songs in the countdown, joining the likes of Midnight Oil, AC/DC, Silverchair, Gang Of Youths and Powderfinger.
