Amidst the scandal of "Hip-Hop boss" Diddy, the movie "The Idol" starring The Weeknd and Lily-Rose Depp, with Jennie's participation, was suddenly mentioned again.
Diddy’s (real name Sean John Combs) arrest on multiple charges has been a hot topic on social media recently. International media revealed that Diddy’s behavior was carefully hidden behind the cover of lavish parties, gathering many Hollywood stars.
Diddy's "white parties" are being dug up.
Amidst that scandal, netizens suddenly mentioned The Idol (starring The Weeknd, Lily-Rose Depp and featuring Jennie (BLACKPINK)). Netizens said that the film caused a lot of controversy about the quality of its content but somehow reflected the scary, disgusting dark side behind the glitz of Hollywood.
The Idol offers a different perspective when young artists become “prey” of powerful people, become “little puppies” of managers, manipulated in both thoughts and actions. To pursue their dreams, they are forced to lose themselves in lavish parties, unable to escape on their own.
Some aspects of The Idol are said to be reminiscent of Diddy's scandal. Behind the bright halo of the stars is a dark curtain that hides a lot of humiliation.
Episode 3 of The Idol also includes a reference to “Epstein Island,” which is a similar, equally shocking scandal that was exposed by Diddy. “Epstein Island” refers to the private island Little St. James, owned by billionaire Jeffrey Epstein. He used it for prostitution and other crimes, leading to it being known as “pedophile island.” Jeffrey Epstein committed suicide while awaiting trial in 2019.
The Idol failed because it was not skillful, even "too ostentatious" in conveying its message.
Diddy's scandal will be further exposed in a documentary released by Netflix. The project's two executive producers are Alexandra Stapleton and Curtis Jackson, better known by his stage name 50 Cent.
